Are you also wondering what's the difference between Recycle and Upcycle? At one point I became confused coz both end results serves the same purpose but along the way the process from both is different. I had the tendency even up to now when I try to categorize what I created to mix both. I had to think twice whether I recycled or upcycled on a particular project. Is upcyle a word afterall? I grew up only hearing "recycle" word and now we have the upcycle then we also have "altered art" - then the downcycling .... now that confuses most of us indeed.
The way I understand it: Recycle is simply re-using an item/product in a new way. Upcycling according to Wikipedia is Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value. I don't see any difference at all because both is equal to "make-over".
To deep down further ...... recycling I guess entails a chemical process whereas upcycling is just a make-over. Having said that, well, I guess we upcycle first before we recyle. Now what is altered art? That's another story!
